Tasmania's capital city is Hobart while Launceston with a population of around 70,000 is the major city of northern Tasmania. Launceston is situated on the Tamar River, sixty kilometres inland from the northern Tasmanian coastline. The subdivision is located on the western bank of the Tamar River at Legana, 14km northward along the Tamar River from Launceston. The Spirit of Tasmania ferries from Melbourne dock at Devonport which is 60km from the subdivision at Legana.
