- Ushuaia
Month, 2000
From the northernmost point of Argentina to the southernmost; also the most southern city in the world - Ushuaia. This was our first glimpse of the snow capped Andes from the plane coming into Ushuaia
The final turn preparing to land in Ushuaia. View of Andies from the plane.
The rugged peaks of Mount Olivia - Ushuaia
After we had been to the Prison Museum, we came out to see a beautiful, fine cresent moon.
Second day in Ushuaia. Trekking on Glacier Marshall
At the end of the 'shaky rock climb on Glacier Marshall. Looking at view of the town of Ushuaia and the Beagle Canal (with war ships)
Walking on Glacier Marshall. Just approaching the rock climb (shaky knees)
View from top of chairlift at start of Glacier Marshall. In background, Town of Ushuaia, Beagle Canal & Andies
Graham, I think this is the point we reached on Glacier Marshall before starting our sliding decent.
Walking down ski slope below Glacier Marshall. Notice war ships on Beagle Canal.
Second day in Ushuaia. National Park, 10km trek. Where we stopped to have lunch and saw the little bird close to us. Remember, the coach of tourists further round to our right that we were glad we were not with
National Park. We would never have had this photo if we had been in time for the bus. I was never so glad to have to wait another 2 hours for the next one with a view like this. NOTE: See the reflection of the cloud in the middle of the lake, Nan tried everything possible to show that cloud in the sky. It is clear on the original photo but the scanned image does not show it. She tried every which way. Perhaps if we upload the original scan you can do something with it if you have access to Adobe.
I was determined to have a photograph with a penguin so had to make do with this one - better than nothing -I think he's quite cute don't you?
Day 3 in Ushuaia. Not sure about this one. Think it could be on way up to Panoramic View. Will try to check with video.
Day 3. Minivan drove us up to this Panoramic View. We then walked 10kms to the chipmill (smoke in photo). Entailed walking down mountain, continued along track (saw cascading water) to where you had vegetable soup at restaurant on lake. Then, escorted by dog walked along muddy road to Chipmill. Driver took us into Chipmill.
Day 3. On walk from above Panoramic view, this is a photo of the cascading water mentioned in above.
I think this is the photo you took when we came out of restaurant (where you had the soup) and we sat on sloping bank. This was facing the direction in which we were walking. Remember, you tried to see if we could walk along the river's edge but couldn't
Dr. Graham Zhivago - Don't forget you've got to see the film Graham
A wonderful 8 minute experience - being pulled along on a sled by eight husky dogs
Taking off from Ushuaia heading for Rio Gallegos - The Snow Capped Andes
