We stayed in the small town of San Pedro de Atacama, near the salt lake. It is located just to the east of Calama (on the map) in the north of Chile.
Andian Flamingos eating micro-moluscs in the salt lake.
I wanted to capture all the orange-red shades of the sand, and those of the white-blues of the sky.
Flamingos on the move. There are around 40,000 in the salt lakes area, spanning from Chile to Bolivia.
Sub-terranian water with high concentrations of salt permeate to the surface of this lake. The high temperature and low humidity evaporate the water as it reaches the surface, such that it doesn't get time to become a lake with water. Also, this process causes the mounds you see.
Soledad and I surrounded by deep blue lakes and bright yellow wildgrass.
Mid-way into our salt lakes tour, we stopped to have lunch at about 4,500m.
Standard groupie photo.
Again, amazing colour shades and towering volcanoes caught my eye.
My god, the beautiful, yet somehow stark scenery just never stopped coming...
...and coming.
I loved the colour combination of this deep green pond nestled amongst the salt and wildgrass.

More flamingos. Don't worry, there are yet more.
