- Tikal
Entering Guatemala from Mexico via a river boat ride through the jungle.
Sitting atop one of the pyramids at Tikal. Many of these structures were used for astronomical purposes. Temples were aligned acrding to the summer/winter equinoxes and the solstices such that on the appropriate day the sun would set in an exact position.
Temple of the Grand Jaguar. Built to honour and bury King Ah-Cacau by his son, who succeeded to the throne in 734AD.
